Would you like to read a boring email? Would you like read a boring email that contains a boring sales pitch? NO, you wouldn’t and neither do your customers. They will delete those things extremely fast and forget that they ever arrived in the first place. All the time and effort that you expended preparing that email would be gone in an instant!
It’s time to stop writing as though you were trying to sell something and write as though you were speaking to an old friend. They will appreciate and READ something that is personal and/or entertaining. There are things that you can do to make your readers keep reading and actually respond!
Tell a story that is interesting and captivating and will lead into your sales pitch. It can be personal, but it needs to capture their attention and then walk them right into your sales offer. Be original and creative. Be YOU.
Another successful way to capture the interest of your reader is to use humor in your writing. They are already fed up with what they are doing and are looking for some relief from the day to day grind. Make them smile and they will remember you. You can be humorous without being offensive or ‘off color’. You want to win the over to you, not run them off because of a poor choice of words.
Another way to ensure that your readers will open your emails is to get them involved with what you are doing. Encourage them to ask questions or give you feedback on the subject at hand. Let them know that you value their input.
